The 5-pointed star (pentagram) can be traced to many ancient cultures. The symbol was used in the 4th century BC in Mesopotamia, both as the seal of Solomon and of Jerusalem for the Jewish people. The symbol also appears in Egyptian hieroglyphics, associated with the Goddess Sopdet. Today the image of the five pointed has been used to promote entertainment and feed Satanic furor. Additionally, the many neo-pagan movements have adopted the pentagram as their ensign of "natural religion."
It appears in many flags, in the center of the Islam crescent moon symbol, in the Great Seal of the U.S. (with supposed Freemasonry influence).
See the Pentagram Page for more.
