Wildlife in Putah Creek include:
Heron, egrets, kingfishers, ducks, geese, pond turtles, beaver, otter, mink, and some native fish species. And a rare bear and mountain lion.
If you encounter a bear or mountain lion, don't run. Instead, face the animal, make noise, throw rocks, and try to look bigger, get close together if you are in a group, pick up children and dogs. Take off your backpack if it has food in in and throw it away.

According to Restored sections reduced wildlife| Friends of Putah Creek, "Sections where the Creek channel has been narrowed and "restored" provide better viewing of spawning salmon for a few weeks of each year, but fish and wildlife that were previously found in the "unrestored" sections are now scarcely found where the channel has been narrowed."
