Arthur Joseph Babineau McBride
  Born November 2019 in Palo Alto, CA
Arthur's heritage: Taiwanese (Chinese), Canadian, Italian, French, English, Polish, German, Irish, Scottish,
Arthur has several ancestors from both his mother's and father's side who immigrated to North America in the 1600s. He is a 12th generation North American.
This page is under the California Families web site because Arthur is a seventh generation Californian. Four of his Great-Great-Great Grandparents were born in California in the 1850s and 1860s.

Christmas 1 month - Christmas, with late grandmother, Joanna Chien's, Christmas stocking.
I miss her more than ever now that Arthur is here, but part of her is in Arthur.

2020 2 months. - Arthur's swimming lesson with Dad.

5 months - First solid food.
6 months - Sitting up with a little help from his rings.
I think he'll need bigger rings to start practicing his iron cross gymnastic pose.
May 18 - Tummy-time - "Come on Mom. Let's sit up again. This is too much work."
Your Dad can teach you the sit-out wrestling move from this position. He was an expert at escaping.
"Why is my head so heavy?" Brains.
 
Rotating Sitting Exercise Center - Davis visit
7 months - "These legs are made for dancing, running, kicking, jumping, biking, skiing, ..."  

Busy Board
7 ½" months - "These hands are good for manipulating things."
I hope it will be something other than video games like the violin, brain surgery, or piloting a drone for environmental research (Not a military drone).  
 
8 months - Tom's Birthday at Quail Lake and the Cabin, Homewood
 
 
9 ½ months - Lunch at my fledging pollinator garden. Hopefully it will be attracting bees, humming birds and butterflys next summer so Arthur can observe from the dining room window.  
October

I'm sure Arthur will gain his parents love of the outdoors.  

11 months - Climbing on Mount Tom.
"I think I can make a lunge move to grab an ear then make it to the top."
These arms should be good for rock climbing, baseball, swimming...
 
11+ months - Haloween - Yoda. "Over the next 900 years I'm going to solve the world's problems with the help of the force."

Good athletic position - wide stance, shoulders over toes, knees were bent just before this frame.

"They made me a cake for my birthday and tried to set it on fire. I've got teach my adults not to play with matches."

Feb. 4, 2021
"I like to go out with my sister Ollie.
I used to be the same size as her, but I'm much bigger now. I think my parents are feeding me better. I try to share some of my food with Sis."

April - Montera Beach - "Way over there is where your Grandmother was born in Taiwan.
We'll be able to walk down to the beach from our new house in Moss Beach and see things like seals, whales, crabs, star fish and much more."

April 18 - Cabin Spring cleanup.

June 26 - Looking for snakes at Stanford West, Palo Alto.
2nd best Fathers day. I knew I was accepted as part of the family. Arthur shared some toys with me and took me for a walk at the playground.
Best Father's day in a long time was after we found out Thomas was on the way.
In 2019 I was one of the first to find out that Arthur was on the way.
July 18 - Road Trip to visit Grammy and Poppy on vacation in Colorado.
Waiting for our Tesla to charge in Utah. "I'm glad we're out of Nevada; That was boring; We sang 'Old McDonald had a Farm' all the way to pass the time."
September 2021 - Teamwork with Arthur's advanced (lots of irregular shapes) shape-sorting cube. Arthur showed Grandpa how to use the key to open it.
Grandpa showed Arthur how to get the star shape thru the star hole. Arthur got excited after he got good at dropping the star shape thru the hole.
Arthur's always a star in Grandpa's eyes.
Oct 8 - Climbing Wall
Arthur just mastered descending the stairs by going down on his backside.
He's moved on to ascending skills on the climbing wall just behind his desk in their utility room.
Eat your heart out kids. How many of you have your own personal climbing wall for a little exercise break from doing artwork or reading at your desk?
December 2021

Arthur likes to help his parents work in the garden at their new house and to push/pull anything with wheels, so for Christmas, I made him a garden cart. It was raining so we didn't have time to work in the garden but tested it out in their new utility room which is also Arthurs' play and workroom.

Arthur gets wet. Was it a slip or a dive.

2022
January
Arthur could be a good teacher. He's grabbed the attention of some classmates.

October - Arthur takes a jog around Grandpa's rehabbed (grass converted to drought tolerant plants) front yard garden path.

November 2022 - Arthur's 3rd birthday and Thanksgiving

George Harrison got his start on a ukulele.
 

2023
Tom was teaching a class for the Tahoe Backcountry Ski Patrol in Davis, while Brooke and Arthur kept Grandpa company. We were going to visit Tom's class and Arthur thought he should have some ski poles. I found some spare parts in my garage and fashoned some hiking sticks, which fit the need and became a favorite.

Show and tell day at pre-school for things beginning with the leter "T".
Arthur wore a McBride family tartan tie.

Arthur leads the way
Arthur spots a flock (gaggle or rafter) of young turkeys on the way back to Grandpa's from playing at Mace Ranch Park. They flew up to a fence when they saw us coming. They were in Grandpa's yard yesterday. July 2023

Skiing -
First skiing with Dad - Jan 2023

Arthur progressed from skiing the bunny Hill at Homewood to skiing, with a little help from Mom, from the top down Rainbow Ridge and Lombard St to the bottom. 1.5 mi with 1,580 feet of vertical drop.
He ended the year skiing from the top of the roundhouse lift at Palisades/Alpine Meadows to the bottom with a 950 ft of vertical drop.
I blew it by not getting a video on the steep stuff. He was too fast for me to get out in front.

Arthur has cousins named Arthur in his Mazza family line.
