In an era where the tea party republicans, Sarah Palin, G. W. Bush, Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck and other right wing elements seem to be getting all the news, the moderate civil Republicans seem to be forgotten.
Two recent developments, the death at 103 of Edgar Wayburn (5 time president of the Sierra Club) and the retirement of Supreme Court Justice Stevens, reminded me of a few of the good ones. Here is are some of my favorite Republicans:

William Kent - CA Congressman - Independent in later years
Earl Warren - CA governor, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
Millicent Fenwick - NJ Congareswoman - Walter Cronkite called her "The conscience of Congress."

John McCain (before he recruited Palin)

Olympia Snowe - Main Senator
