Bone mineral density (BMD) in grams per square cm is the typical measure. T-score is the number of standard deviations from the mean (average) value for a 20-30 yr. old caucasian female.
Using Sahara Bone Sonometer measurement on the heel av is 0.575 g/cm2
At the hip av. is 0.955 g/cm 2

T-Score

*	Normal bone: T-score better than -1.
*	Osteopenia: T-score between -1 and -2.5
*	Osteoporosis: T-score less than -2.5

See: Bone Density at washington.edu
BMD for men is 13% higher at age 55, 25% higher at age 75. not all studies show that the fracture risk is the same for men and women with identical bone density values (in g/cm2).
